The Government of Quebec, the City of Quebec, and Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ) Infra signed an agreement to deliver Phase 1 of the Circuit intégré de transport express (CITÉ) in Montreal. The tramway project will be called TramCité.

The project is a 19-km (11.8-mile), 29-station modern tramway system. It will be the backbone of mobility in Québec City and connect efficiently to other modes of transportation.

High-frequency service and comfortable cars will improve the quality of public transit in the city’s busiest areas, such as Le Gendre (Cap-Rouge), Sainte-Foy, Université Laval, Colline Parlementaire, Saint-Roch, and Charlesbourg.

CDPQ Infra recently released a procurement notice as part of the TramCité project to enable the industry to properly prepare for the various phases of this major project’s procurement processes. It invites local and international companies to learn about the procurement processes for this project, which will be developed in progressive design-build (PDB) mode.

The TramCité project is also a unique opportunity for the greater Quebec region to accomplish the following:

  • Accelerate real estate development
  • Boost productivity and employment
  • Generate major economic benefits during construction

Construction will begin in 2027, with commissioning in 2033.
