CarbiCrete Inc., Montreal-based carbon removal technology company, Aecon, North American construction firm, and Lafarge Canada Inc., provider of innovative and sustainable building solutions, formed a consortium to construct a low-carbon building in Ontario.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was recently held to commemorate Aecon’s Innovation and Training Centre in Holland Landing, Ontario.
The event marked the completion of the first structure constructed using cement-free concrete masonry units (CMUs) and low-carbon concrete. The low-carbon building will be used as a tool storage facility for trainees working at the facility.
With the successful completion of this trial, the consortium has set a new industry standard in using low-carbon construction products to advance sustainable practices.
