Recognizing the growing need for housing, Toronto-based housing agency Houselink & Mainstay Community Housing, along with architecture firm Montgomery Sisam Architects, developed a six-storey affordable housing project.

One of the project’s features includes a compact, L-shaped massing and rhythmic facade to provide a modern, cost-effective housing solution while integrating with the surrounding community. The massing features light standing seam metal cladding, a distinctive charcoal masonry base, and warm wood soffits at the entrance for a welcoming touch.

It incorporates a green roof covering more than 50 per cent of its surface and achieves energy performance that is 25 per cent above standard code requirements.

It is purpose-built to support seniors aged 55+ who require accessible, independent living options. Other notable features include a fireside lounge overlooking a rain garden, a multipurpose room for gatherings and events, and a courtyard.
