The Port Darlington Water Pollution Control Plant (WPCP), which services approximately 50,000 residents in Bowmanville, Ont., will undergo engineering upgrades undertaken by AECOM.
The four-year contract’s scope of work comprises two upgrade projects. The first will focus on replacing the existing waste gas burner (WGB) with an enclosed flame WGB. The second project will include upgrades to Plant 1 liquid treatment systems, the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, and other vital clean-up work around the plant.
Once complete, the updates are expected to enhance the plant’s performance and reliability while being environmentally sustainable. They will reduce energy waste and overall operational costs, benefitting both the region and the community.
Building resilience of the town’s wastewater infrastructure is critical to meeting the demands growing communities place on water and wastewater systems.
