Canada’s oldest continuing museum starts revitalization project

The New Brunswick Museum (NBM) in Saint John recently began construction and celebrated its groundbreaking ceremony. Valued at $130 million, it is the city’s largest construction project.
Undertaken by EllisDon, the New Brunswick Museum revitalization project will partially rebuild and expand the historic building.
It will also upgrade the city’s parking and pedestrian infrastructure, with a new snow-ban lot for winters and upgraded sidewalks. Other upgrades will include turning the Douglas Avenue and Bentley Street crosswalks into lighted crosswalks and extending Harbour Passage, a trail connecting the west and north sides with the uptown.
The province will contribute $58 million to the project, while the federal government will provide about $50 million.
