The Government of Quebec has made a federal investment of more than $2.8 million to support the use of low-carbon Canadian wood construction.
The investments toward FPInnovations, a not-for-profit R&D organization, focus on three projects. The funds are provided through Natural Resources Canada’s (NRCan) Green Construction through Wood (GCWood) program and the Zero Emission Vehicle Awareness Initiative (ZEVAI). One of the projects supports the use of zero-emission vehicles in the forestry and commercial transportation sectors.
FPInnovations will collect and analyze market data and develop market intelligence with several collaborators across Canada to support the expansion of low-carbon construction materials. This will involve research and testing to enable the commercialization of various wood systems and generate the necessary data to allow these wood-based systems to be adopted in Canadian building codes.
FPInnovations will also develop resources to support zero-emission or clean-fuel vehicles through demonstrations, short operational trials, and highlights.
