Construction has begun on two, six-storey, mid-rise apartment buildings replacing a demolished 64-unit low-rise building in Vancouver.

The project will build 146 new affordable homes. Brightside Community Homes Foundation, a Vancouver-based non-profit housing operator, will own and manage the buildings.

The two buildings will offer studios and one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments for seniors and families. The province says 36 of the units will be made fully accessible.

The project, expected to be completed by 2027, is part of the B.C. government’s $19-billion housing investment.
