Global provider of renewable materials Mercer Mass Timber (MMT) received a $7 million grant from the B.C. government under the BC Manufacturing Jobs Fund (BCMJF) to strengthen the province’s position as a leader in mass-timber innovation.
This initiative will support a mass timber production facility and protect sustainable forestry jobs in Okanagan Falls, B.C.
The BCMJF funding will support the purchase of new advanced manufacturing equipment and the completion of factory upgrades that will modernize the facilities, improve production efficiencies, and scale manufacturing of a wider variety of mass timber products.
As a result, MMT is rehiring employes, will produce cross-laminated timber (CLT) in the region, enhance its production of glued laminated timber (glulam) by 25 per cent, and improve the quality of the finished products which are used predominantly as structural components for multi-tenant buildings.
The BCMJF is part of a series of programs in the province to support sustainability in B.C.’s forestry sector.
