BMO opens its first net-zero energy branch in Ontario
July 22, 2024

Committing to a sustainable future, Bank of Montreal (BMO) recently opened its first net-zero energy branch in Kitchener, Ont.
The 464 m2 (5,000 sf) branch features energy efficient construction methods as well as low-carbon design, such as materials with high recyclable content, structural wood, and low-carbon concrete.
The branch has been equipped with 25 solar panels to ensure any energy consumed is offset by the energy produced.
The branch is designed to be up to five times more insulated and airtight than the average BMO branch, significantly reducing heating and cooling needs.
A colourful mural is also part of the new branch’s highlights and reflects the branch’s theme of sustainability and nature.
