Designed by Hariri Pontarini Architects, 8 Spadina, the LEED Platinum office tower that anchors The Well in downtown Toronto, has received the International Tall Building Design Award from the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH).

The 111,500-m2 (1.2-million sf), 38-storey tower has exposed stairways and a macroscale facade—a nod to the area’s industrial heritage—and is designed to be a gateway through a multi-storey opening at street level to The Well’s office, retail, and residential space.

With three distinct volumes, the structure terraces upwards, offering diverse floor plates for enhanced office space flexibility. Unlike typical office towers, 8 Spadina has an off-centre elevator core on the north side, maximizing daylight and views for office floors and creating a spacious, airy lobby.

The CTBUH Awards program recognizes projects that have made extraordinary contributions to the advancement of tall buildings and the urban environment and achieve sustainability and human well-being at the highest and broadest level.

Hariri Pontarini Architects has previously received design excellence distinction from the CTBUH for the mixed-use King Portland Centre, located in the King West District of downtown Toronto.
