The Gordie Howe International Bridge, which began construction in 2018, will be completed by fall 2025. This landmark bridge will connect Ontario to Detroit, Mich.

Once completed, the meeting of the bridge’s two sides will make it the longest cable-stayed bridge in North America.

Currently, the construction stands at 220 m (721 ft), includes support towers, and majority of the stay cables supporting the road deck are also installed. A total of 216 stay cables will be installed. At the Canadian and U.S. ports of entry, paving of lanes, parking lots and roadways are currently underway, and painting and floor installation has started inside 10 of 12 buildings.

The bridge will include a dedicated multiuse path to accommodate pedestrians and cyclists crossing between Windsor, Ont. and Detroit. The addition of a multiuse path to the bridge design requirements was a direct result of public consultation and community feedback.

Concrete barriers will separate vehicular traffic from pedestrians and cyclists. It will also link trail networks on both sides of the border, connecting the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail in Windsor to the Iron Belle Trail and the Great Lakes Way in Detroit.
