The Government of Alberta has invested $55 million in the new multi-disciplinary science hub under Budget 2024 at the University of Calgary (UCalgary).

The new hub will allow more students to access STEM facilities and training at the university. It will also be the primary home for research and collaboration in the university’s Faculty of Science and will help address the gap in STEM talent shortages in Alberta. Once built, the hub is estimated to add at least 2,000 openings in various science-related programs.

“This Multidisciplinary Science Hub will create new opportunities for scientific research and collaboration with partners in government, industry, and society that will benefit Alberta, Canada, and the entire world,” says Rajan Sawhney, minister of advanced education.

The construction of the hub is estimated to begin this year, with an expected opening of 2029.
