PCL Construction has been selected as the construction manager for the Calgary International Airport’s (YYC’s) West Runway Rehabilitation project, aimed at renewing the runway which is nearing the end of its life cycle.
The rehabilitation will include the removal and replacement of the pavement structure of the runway, as well as upgrades to its aging electrical and drainage systems and supporting infrastructure. Further, improvements to existing taxiways and aircraft movement surfaces will be part of the design scope. “Our team of industry-leading construction experts will ensure the airport’s world-class guest experience is maintained while we strategically rebuild one of three critical runways,” says Alistair McKnight, PCL’s district manager for Calgary and Southern Alberta.
Chris Miles, chief operating officer (COO) for The Calgary Airport Authority, said, “The West Runway Rehabilitation project is a keystone project for YYC and will play a pivotal role in the long-term success of our airport and the greater Calgary region.”
Over the last 15 years, PCL has delivered more than $1 billion of civil infrastructure at YYC, including the construction of its east runway, the airport trail interchanges and tunnel, and the east deicing facility/apron, among others.
