The Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET) Cross Border Home Building Challenge has been announced for 2015.

Presented by RESNET and the Canadian Residential Energy Services Network (CRESNET), the program sees seven awards will be distributed based on Home Energy Rating System (HERS) Index scores. The award categories are:
● Lowest HERS score Canadian Production Builder (>50 homes HERS rated per year);
● Lowest HERS score Canadian Custom Builder (50 homes HERS rated per year);
● Lowest HERS score U.S. Production Builder (>50 homes HERS rated per year);
● Lowest HERS score U.S. Custom Builder (<50 homes HERS rated per year);
● Lowest HERS score (open to all builders and includes photovoltaic [PV]);
● Canadian Production Builder with the highest percentage of homes HERS rated <55; and
● U.S. Production Builder with the highest percentage of homes HERS rated < 55.

The HERS Index[2] was created by RESNET to provide buyers with a measure of energy efficiency when purchasing a home. HERS scores are provided after an energy audit is completed.

“Once again, the RESNET Cross Border Challenge will be a friendly competition between American and Canadian Home Builders to determine just how energy efficient builders can build,” said CRESNET president John Godden. “As in 2014, we are expecting some of the largest and most respected U.S and Canadian builders to participate in the 2015 competition.”

Last year, the award for the Canadian production builder with the lowest HERS score went to Brookfield Residential, while the custom builder with the lowest score was Hunt Homes.

The awards will be presented at the 2015 RESNET Conference in San Diego, California. Click here[3] for more information.
