recognized outstanding achievement in the solar energy sector. Held last
month, the 2008 Solar Awards honoured The Hospital for Sick Children as the
Solar Thermal Project of the Year, and Carmanah Technologies' Government of Canada project, Jean Canfield Building, as Solar PV Project of the Year. |

of Construction Documentation (PCD) online course begins. An introductory
program that offers students a better understanding of specifications, drawings,
schedules, building products, bidding procedures, and contracts, the PCD serves
as a precursor to all other CSC education courses and designations. |

| Construction and demolition waste makes up 23 per cent of the overall
wastestream. To address this issue, Alberta is breaking ground in Canada
with a new construction site waste reduction strategy. By next year, the
province plans to begin recycling construction and demolition waste,
eventually eliminating it from landfills. |

| Canada's condominium building boom is spiralling downward, due to
diminishing demand, lack of consumer confidence, and tight credit
conditions. An increasing inventory of unsold units further discourages
developers. Overall residential construction activity was at its slowest
pace late last year since 2001, partly because of the ailing condominium
sector—condominiums make up 50 to 60 per cent of Vancouver's residential
construction and about half of all new homebuilding activity in Toronto. |

| Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions might take the plunge with Canada Green
Building Council (CaGBC) and BC Hydro's new collaboration. The two
organizations have joined forces to help lower GHG emissions of British
Columbia's buildings through energy conservation. |

million positions with no applicants. To manage this potential crisis, the
Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) is funding 'Construction
Challenge '09' to help youth throughout North America better understand the
