CaGBC to preview LEED expansion at national summit

The Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC) is setting forth on a multi-year initiative to further evolve its Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED Canada) program. The plan is to have the sustainable building rating system include more project types—both new and existing. Developing from a one-time certification system to a lifecycle building performance management tool, the move is intended to streamline the certification process.

Aviation building soars as first LEED – EB Gold in Canada

Located in downtown Montreal, La Maison de l'OACI/Place de la cité internationale has been named the nation's first LEED–EB Gold building. Administered by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Existing Buildings program recognizes sustainable property management and construction with respect to both energy efficiency and ecological responsibility. (The Canada Green Building Council [CaGBC] does not yet have a program for existing buildings.)

Concrete canoes paddling to Montreal

Concrete canoes may sound as successful as lead balloons, but the National Concrete Canoe Competition entering its 21st year dispels that notion. The annual event, organized by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), is coming to Canada. From June 19 to 21, Montreal's École de technologie supérieure will be the site of 18 student teams (winners from regional competitions across the continent), as they race their Division 03 boats across Notre-Dame Island's Olympic Basin.
